Pure Gold, a key player in the Dubai jeweller market, has increased its diamond sales in 2005 by 225 per cent, compared to results in the first half sales of 2004, prompting the launch of low-priced 18 karat diamond collection, Pure Sparkle.
According to a recent survey of consumers conducted by Pure Gold, value-based brands appeal to a burgeoning yet untapped market segment comprising of price conscious yet acutely fashionable professional women.
"With the Pure Sparkle collection we want to move away from the 'inaccessible luxury' stigma often tied to diamonds. We want to make diamond jewellery available to women of all walks of life," said Pure Gold Chairman, Firoz Merchant. "Glamorous diamonds have become more fashionable among younger women, who until recently preferred discreet silver and white gold," he observed.

Amazon.com, Inc. (Nasdaq:AMZN) today announced the sale of its highest-priced item so far this holiday season, a pair of $94,000 diamond earrings. Certified by the Gemological Institute of America, the drop earrings are a total carat weight of 8.34 carats, featuring two 2.5 carat yellow diamonds and two 1 carat white diamonds in a platinum and 18 karat yellow gold setting.
"These stunning earrings are going to make someone's holiday very special this year," says Steven Goldsmith, vice president, Amazon.com Jewelry. "We're delighted that more and more customers are turning to Amazon.com for luxury jewelry shopping."
High-end jewelry has been more popular than ever with Amazon.com shoppers this holiday season. Diamond-studded Christmas cake on sale at Tokyo store

Diamond-studded cake for sale in Tokyo. Wholesale diamond sales have been picking up since Japan’s economy bounces back. The Canadian Press reports:

The economy is finally picking up, and Tokyoites are in a spending mood this winter. So how better to celebrate Christmas than with a diamond-studded cake worth about $2 million Cdn?
The sparkling pink creation, which went on sale Tuesday at Takashimaya Department Store in central Tokyo, "has already received many inquiries" from prospective customers, said store spokesman Takeshi Morinaka.
A total of 223 diamonds - including a five-carat, heart-shaped stone - adorn the double-layer, marzipan-coated fruitcake, designed by Tokyo-based sweets chef Jeong Hong-yong.
